Our Reason
In the Zambian dialects of Ila/Tonga, Mutinta is the name given to a child born opposite of the established pattern of previous siblings; a pattern breaker.
Mutinta is a Pattern Breaker.
She was born out of a desire to no longer nurture stunted dreams and to course a new adventure. An adventure opposite of a mundane reality.
While the name and its meaning were so poignant to the phase of life that sparked this new passion, Mutinta is also named after my aunt. She is our family’s resident creator. With a knack for envisioning greatness in the mundane, my aunt can create masterpieces from items that had no purpose in a previous life.
Similar to my aunt, I wanted what I was doing to capture that same spirit of reinvention and potent creativity.
Mutinta is a love letter to the person I need to be and an ode to the women in my family. Each and every woman that has poured into me incapsulates that same spirit of creativity and resourcefulness.
Mutinta is an expression of pride in my culture and my country.
Above all, Mutinta is my prayer for every beauty that adorns themselves with her. May you have the courage to course a new adventure and break free of every pattern that is not serving you.
Welcome, nu bamukowa (Ila for family)!
